HVAC Service Technician
Full job description
The ideal technician will be capable of independently running service calls, diagnosing issues accurately, performing repairs efficiently, and communicating clearly with homeowners. Proper documentation in ServiceTitan (or the ability to learn it quickly) is essential.
Must-Have Criteria
These should generally be treated as non-negotiable screening requirements, unless the owner explicitly approves an exception.
Experience
- Minimum 2+ years of recent HVAC service experience.
- Strong preference for residential HVAC service background.
- Must have experience running independent service calls, not solely working as an apprentice or helper.
Technical Skills
- Comfortable diagnosing and repairing standard residential HVAC equipment including:
- Gas furnaces
- Electric furnaces
- Air handlers
- Condensers
- Heat pumps
- Experience performing preventative maintenance, seasonal tune-ups, and maintenance agreement services.
- Able to identify and recommend appropriate repairs or upgrades when necessary.
Licensing & Driving
- Valid driver’s license.
- Driving record must meet company insurance requirements (final thresholds to be confirmed with Stephen).
- EPA Certification or willingness to obtain quickly depending on state requirements.
Work Style & Communication
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in the field.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly explain diagnoses and solutions to homeowners without technical jargon.
- Willingness to follow company processes, workflows, and documentation standards within service management software.
Attitude & Culture Fit
- Positive, professional attitude with no tolerance for toxic or negative behavior.
- Comfortable participating in weekly team meetings and accountability structures.
- Takes responsibility for maintaining company vehicles, tools, and equipment.
Nice-to-Have Criteria
The following qualifications are valuable differentiators but not mandatory:
- Direct experience using ServiceTitan.
- 5+ years of HVAC service experience.
- Experience working within high-volume or fast-growing HVAC/home services companies.
- Proven track record of educating customers and generating additional service recommendations through trust and transparency rather than aggressive sales tactics.
Key Responsibilities (for Candidate Discussions)
- Respond to scheduled service, maintenance, and emergency repair calls.
- Diagnose and repair residential HVAC systems efficiently and accurately.
- Perform seasonal system inspections, tune-ups, and preventative maintenance.
- Clearly communicate diagnoses, recommended solutions, and pricing options to homeowners.
- Document service calls, job notes, and completion details in ServiceTitan or similar field service software.
- Coordinate with dispatch and office staff regarding scheduling, job status, and required parts.
- Maintain company vehicle, tools, and professional appearance according to company standards.
- Deliver a high level of customer service and professionalism on every job.

- Understands that proper care of company vehicles, equipment, and tools is part of the job responsibility.
- Values stability, team culture, and long-term growth, rather than frequently changing employers.
Compensation Structure:
Competitive compensation combining hourly base pay plus performance-based earnings (commission/per-piece pay). Final hourly rate and total on-target earnings to be discussed.
Pay: $25.20 – $30.35 per hour
